Music Monday (Pete Yorn)

Oh yeah, it’s really happening on monday!!!

Ok, this music monday is all about an artist named Pete Yorn. I have to be honest, I thought that, to me, Pete Yorn was going to be a fad, something i would just listen to while it was cool then throw it away. I started listening to him about 8 or 9 years ago and I thought it was sweet, but i mainly started listening to him because everyone else was. I wasn’t super into his music, but i kept on listening to it. I remember jamming his cd “musicforthemorningafter” all summer one year.. hanging by the pool, cruising with the windows down, on the boat at the lake… ect. For some reason that summer just didn’t feel right if ole’ Pete wasn’t jammin in the stereo.

Recently, i posted about this a few weeks ago, i discovered that i was listening to the same artist way too often and needed to broaden my musical interests. So I decided to put my ipod on shuffle. I know it doesn’t seem like that would broaden my musical interests that much, but i only listen to about 10% of the stuff that is on there, so it is a step. Anyway, I skipped through a lot of stuff, but anytime a Pete Yorn song came on I wouldn’t skip it. I still remembered all the words and could remember what i was doing while listening to this stuff. Maybe my opinion is flawed because of this but I really like his stuff. I believe that “musicforthemorningafter” is his best cd by far, and I definitely think you should check it out.

Pete plays all the instruments on the cd himself, he writes and produces most of it as well. He is a very talented dude! I love how catchy the melodies are and how original his sound is. Its kinda folk rock/indie/rock/with a slight hint of country. I love it. check out the video below.

Coolest Baptism Ever!

First off I want to encourage everyone to go read Pastor Barry’s and Pastor Byron’s blogs about what went down at C3 yesterday because there is no way i can describe it as good as they did.

Yesterday C3 church meet at Moss Park, which is probably a lot like any park you have ever been to…(trees, lake, pavilions, strange animals running around, lots of shade, fresh air, sunshine, ect..), we decided to have a day when C3 church just enjoyed being around one another without having a worship service. It was amazing and refreshing! No agenda, just enjoying the company of one another… did i mention we also had a rock climbing wall, a big jumpy thing that shoots you way up in the air (not sure what its called), bounce houses, a Caricaturists, a guy doing everything a clown does but without the make up and clown suit (thank God… clowns freak me out), Italian sausage (OH YEAH!)… and tons more. But the most amazing part of the day to me was the baptism. We had 9 people get baptized in the lake, it was definitely the coolest baptism I had ever seen. Pastor Byron and those getting baptized were too far out in the water for us on shore to here, so as they were brought out of the water everyone cheered loudly so that they knew that we were right there with them and were excited about the choices that each one of them made to follow Christ. It was an amazing experience and I am truly honored to be a part of C3 church.

Paul speaks to Prison Guards. (Rob Bell)

I was recently listening to a talk by Rob Bell called “What has happened to me”, in which Rob gives a monologue in the character of Paul, who wrote much of the new testament, speaking to the prison guards as he is in prison. It truly brings the words of Paul to life. Its so powerful and awesome! Check it out here then click on Mp3 next to “What happened to me.”

Some songs just say it all!

So lately I have been listening to my ipod on shuffle because i felt like i was listening to the same music way too much. Whenever i hear something that i like i normally listen to it day and night for about a month and finally decide to listen to something else. Its kinda weird i know… but today my ipod shuffled to a song by the david crowder band called “open skies”. This is a pretty sweet song but the part that really spoke to me was the bridge when it says “Wherever you are, Wherever you’ve been He’s been there,” this line freakin hit me like a ton of bricks. I often talk to God and tell Him whats going on in my life and how hard it is as if He has no idea how hard life is. But the truth is that there is no human struggle that we face today that Jesus didn’t face and conquer. Now I know Jesus didn’t have all the technology that we have today, but i don’t feel that sin or temptation today is any worse than back then. Sin is sin, and temptation is temptation, and Jesus faced these temptations and didn’t sin. How amazing is the power of God?!?! I so often belittle the knowledge and power of God, He knows whats going on and how to help. This is something that i have heard a lot but for some reason it has never hit home like it did today. Check out this song in the video below.
