It’s not up to me… Is it?

Do you love your church?

Would you like for more people to experience the life change and spiritual growth that you have experienced at your church?

Have you invited anyone to your church this week? month? year?

I have been guilty of thinking that the growth of my church depended on the church staff entirely. If they would do a great job of advertising and put a lot of time and energy into having a great service every week then people would come out of the woodwork. But this is so not true. Think about it. If you didn’t go to church and saw a billboard or an advertisement in the newspaper of a cool church in the area how many of you would go to it the very next sunday? I know i wouldn’t. I would want to but if i had to go by myself or with a friend who has never been there either i would be nervous as crap going in there. The simple thought of, what if I’m the only white person there? or what if i don’t dress right? or what if no one talks to me? or what if the pastor looks at me? or I would probably stick out like a sore thumb, all this would be enough to make me not go. But if later, after deciding not to go, someone from that church comes up to me and somehow we start talking about church and they mention they go to the church that i wanted to visit but was to scared to go to, and they ask me if i would like to meet them in the parking lot in front of the church, or theater :) , at 1015 to go check it out with them, I would most definitely take them up on it. Of course not everyone will accept the invitation, but i bet you would be surprised how many would.

I love living in a new city because i always meet new, cool people everywhere i go. This is normally a part of my conversation with them:

them: “so what brought you to Orlando.”

me: “I moved here because I became the worship pastor at C3 Church.”

them: “Oh cool, I’ve seen the billboards for that church. It looks like a really cool church.”

I have never ran into anyone who said, ” Oh cool, I saw the billboards for that church and decided to check it out.”

Word of mouth is the best way to get people to come to your church. I am super excited about C3 church, and I think that if i can just get my friends or acquaintances to come, then they will encounter God and will be forever changed. So my job, as a member of C3 church, is to get them to come. Don’t force anyone, just simply invite them. If they say no then say cool and drop the subject.

So normally my conversation after ” That looks like a really cool church.” Goes something like: ” It really is awesome. Hey! You wanna come check it out this week? We meet at Regal Cenemas in Waterford lakes. I’ll meet you in the lobby at 10:15.”

As followers of Christ and members of our churches we are called to do this. God has given us the responsibility to spread His truth in our cities. We are the body. We are the church. It is up to us.

IT IS UP TO YOU!!!
