Music Monday (The Raconteurs)

Ok, I know I didn’t post anything since last music monday.. I will try to do better this week :) But this music monday is all about a band called “The Raconteurs”. This band is made up of a group of friends who were seperately successful but decided in early 2006 to start this side project called “The raconteurs”. One of the guys you might know best is Jack White from “the White Stripes”. Now I have to be honest I don’t really like “the White Stripes”, but when my my friend introduced me to “the Raconteurs” I pretty much immediately loved it. I love the creativity in all parts of the music.  All the sounds are very vintage sounding as well. Its definitely something different and is kindof a breath of fresh air from all of this pollished music that we are use to listening to today. Don’t get me wrong, the recording quality is great, but it is just very casually recorded.. and i love that.

Check out the video below and if you dig the music go buy their new album “Consolers of the lonely”.

Music Monday (A Fine Frenzy)

Yes I know its Tuesday, but give me a break ok. Im late a lot and I simply have no excuses. Anyways, this Music Monday is all about a band called “A Fine Frenzy”, and first of all I love their name.. I don’t know why it just sounds cool to me. So that is one plus! Their music is pretty chill, melodic, piano driven, with amazing melodies that will get stuck in your head for days. It is described on their website like this, “hypnotic piano arrangements under classic American melody fused into irresistible, atmospheric songs with the power to reach around the world.” I think they describe it better :)

A fine frenzy is lead by 22 year-old Alison Sudol who was born in seattle but moved to LA at the age of five. She taught herself how to play the piano and is an amazingly talented singer/songwriter. AFF’s album is another album that took me a little while to get into. My friends introduced me to them and were freakin out about how good they were, but i didn’t love it. Months later I decided to give it another try and really loved it. I think life influences the type of music we listen to and I guess I am at a different place now than I was then. So now I love it. So check out the live performance below and if you like it go buy their album “One Cell In the Sea”.

What a weekend!!!

So its been a while since I’ve blogged, sorry to all you regular readers of this “Go Read Some Books” blog. Hopefully during my sabbatical you guys took the title of this blog literally and read lots of books :) I know I have. I started reading this book called The Shack By William P Young and it is really awesome so far. I will blog about it more when I am finished.

Anyways.. back to this amazing weekend. If you live within 500 miles of orlando and you missed The Shane and Shane/ Josh Wilson concert in Avalon Park then you really missed out. Josh Wilson started off the night (just in case you are confused it was not me… it was another Josh Wilson, check him out here) but he was great, he is so stinkin talented and is a very cool guy. Then Shane and Shane ended the night with an amazing hour and a half set. I could seriously listen to shane and shane all day a never get tired of it. There harmonies are amazing. Very cool guys also, hilarious and very down-to-earth.

So I am super excited about this new series the we are launching tomorrow at C3 called “Hey Jude”, we are going to dive in head first into the book of Jude and see what God wants to show us through it, and yes we are playing that song as well. Without a doubt one of the best songs ever written. Just to let everyone know, there is a lot of pressure in covering one of the greatest songs ever written… I mean if you screw it up then everyone will probably hate you… :)

We will be blogging about this series each day of the week HERE! So make sure to check that out.

I know I posted this video before, but in honor of our new series I figured i would post it again. I just hope we can cover this tune half as good as this kid does :)
