This statement totally rocked my world yesterday as C3 launched the series Bodacious 80s. The sermon was based on the Bon Jovi song “Livin on a prayer”, and you guessed it, we talked about prayer.
Pastor Byron used this example: If i woke up every morning and said the same three sentances to my wife and didn’t talk to her the rest of the day unless i had something to complain about, then what kind of relationship would we have?
Please be honest with yourself right now. Is your relationship with God ever like this?
God is not your prayer whore! Yes I believe He loves for us to come to Him with our problems and tell Him how we feel about certain things, but do we ever pray to check it off of our list? Do we find ourselves saying the same exact prayer over and over again? Does this sound like a relationship to you?
God is the creator of heaven and earth. Through Jesus Christ He made a way for us to have a relationship with Him. How insain is that!?! We can actually talk to our Creator. If we truly understood the love that made this relationship possible, and the fact that someone so holy and powerful would be so madly in love with someone as sinful as you and me, then no one would ever have to preach on prayer again. It would be something that Christians all across the world would rave about. So much so that nearly everyone would want to experience this relationship.
Some people may say that their lives are so busy that it is hard to find time to pray, but our relationship with God is something that should be never ending. We can talk to God all day everyday. It is great to set aside time to pray and read the bible, but please know that we don’t have to sit in our prayer chair and light our trinity candles for God to hear us. He is always listening and speaking.
FYI- when I blog about stuff we talk about in church I am just writting about things that God is showing me and reminding me. Writting about it makes clearer to me what God is saying. So please don’t think that I think I am the perfect Christian and that I am trying to tell the world what God thinks about them. I am mainly just telling you what God is showing me.
